Apparatus News!

A popular piece of Pilates apparatus in the SEA studio is the High Barrel. Arrange for an Individual Session and see how this apparatus can be used to enhance your Pilates program.

"I invented all these machines. Began back in Germany, was there until 1925 - used to exercise rheumatic patients. Look, you see it resists your movements in just the right way so those inner muscles really have to work against it. That way you can concentrate on movement. You must always do it slowly and smoothly. Then your whole body is in it."

Joseph Pilates

The High Barrel offers a large number of options as to its effectiveness with the main exercises focusing on spinal extension, leg-stretching, and sit-ups in all directions. Thoughts and Ideas:

"It would be a grave error to assume that even Contrology exercises alone will remake a man or woman into an entirely fit person." - Joseph Pilates

Pilates believed that in conjunction with the exercises he recommended, people needed to pay attention to every aspect of their physical lives to achieve total fitness. He made recommendations on dry brushing the skin, sleeping on a firm mattress, eating no more than what the body can expend throughout the course of the day. And most importantly he emphasized designating certain intervals of the day for relaxation.
